Natural systems have huge potential to recover from anthropogenic environmental damage, such as historic industrial contamination. However, they are not infallible and often require intervention to aide intrinsic recovery. This can include physical (eg ultrasound) and chemical interventions (Advanced oxidation) that reinforce and complement natural biodegradation recovery processes.
