Roberta Wilkinson

Academic Profile

I completed my integrated master’s in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 2017, specialising in Earth Sciences with a particular focus on climate and geophysics. I developed an interest in environmental issues and geohazards during my studies, leading me into a number of internships in water quality and to my master’s research in active tectonics. My research involved numerical modelling of earthquake triggering in subduction zone settings. After graduating from my MSci I worked in air pollution modelling as part of the scientific development team at Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants.

I have a keen interest in science communication - as one half of “Geologise Theatre” I write and perform musical shows about science for children and families.

Current Research

My current research interests are in earthquakes, the active deformation of the continents and the associated seismic hazard. I am interested in improving our understanding of faults with the potential to produce large earthquakes (particularly those located in densely populated areas) through a combination of remote sensing techniques and field work.
